"It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad."

Cookies

I've had a hankering for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for weeks now. I had just decided to bake them when I caught that nasty bug, but now I've finally gotten around to baking!
I may possibly have baked cookies instead of making dinner. *cough* It's ok, though, Zorro made some fried eggs and we ate that. In the mean time, I debuted my bourbon vanilla:
home made bourbon vanilla
And while it definitely had a stronger smell than vanilla made with vodka or bought from the store, I think the finished cookie tasted about the same--which is understandable, when you're trying to top perfection.
Mmmmmm, cookie dough.
My cookie recipe is from an old Better Homes and Garden's children's cook book. The pages are a little stiff with years of cookie-doughed fingers turning them. I think we made only two or three recipes in the entire cookbook, but we made them routinely!
Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are a good way to defeat a Monday, don't you think?

  1. These look soooo good! I love chocolate chip oatmeal, but unfortunately my dear hubby won't eat anything with oatmeal it them - oh well!
That bourbon vanilla sounds pretty good actually!

  2. Hi, Josie! No oatmeal? That's so sad! I've heard so much about bourbon vanilla changing the flavor of baked goods that I think I was expecting more out of it. But it _does_ smell good!
