"It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad."

Spicey Beef Stroganoff

You have no idea how hard it is to take an appetizing picture of beef stroganoff. It is that difficulty which has delayed this recipe from being shared with the internet because I've been making it for months.

I was actually on the phone with a friend while I concocted this creation. I knew I wanted to make stroganoff, and sort of knew how to do it (I'd done it before, but didn't know what recipe I'd used) and my long newsy phone call was interspersed with conspiracy to create stroganoff. Wouldn't you know, it came out scrumptious, and I actually thought to write down what I did.

1 lb ground beef
1/2 package egg noodles
1 can cream of mushroom soup (or, make your own following these directions here)
3 or 4 baby bella mushrooms, sliced

2 shakes each:
red pepper flakes
paprika
garlic powder
salt

splash (real scientific, I know)
worcestershire sauce
soy sauce
milk

Brown beef with red pepper. Add mushrooms. Drain fat. Good egg noodles according to package instructions in a separate pot. Add creamy soup and other spices and sauces. Mix until warmed thoroughly. Serve over egg noodles. Pretty easy peasy.

  1. It might not have been a good idea to post this recipe right after the Blog on Booored horses.

  2. Yummy! So many people make stroganoff with cream cheese. This is a great variation to that more traditional recipe. And, by the way, I LOVE your scientific measuring! It's right up my alley! =]
