I may possibly have created a monster. The past two weeks Midas has looked up with delight when he saw me coming, and when I walked to the gate (the first of two to get to him) he turns away, waiting for the signal to go. So I stomp the ground and tell him to git and he goes. And I'm not even in the pasture with him yet.

I crawl through the fence and tell him to git some more, and he urges himself even faster around the pasture, then comes to a stop usually close to the gate and waits for me to come to him.
He waits expectant, blowing happily, and patiently. He's ready to come in. I don't have to lead him.

We just have a galloping ritual first.

I suppose there are worse things! He makes me laugh.
I have brought my other writerly Abigail to the barn a couple times now, she's a closet horse crazy girl, and is really loving the chance to get back into it. She's a natural around the horses, they can tell she's alright. They aren't ready to just say "ok, you're in charge" without a test, but they like her. Good start! We'll iron out whose in charge as we go.
I think Maverick really likes the attention, even though he spent all the time I had the camera out making faces.
